Which fabric suits festive katha work sarees best?

I am planning to buy a Katha Work Saree and would appreciate any experiences shared by others in this regard. How durable is the embroidery work, and which material would be most suitable for a saree to be worn as a festive attire? In fact, are there any special cautions to be exercised while washing or storing such sarees? Any designs or styling suggestions for the blouses of a Katha Work Saree would be most appreciated.
